Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Friday June 24, 2016

end of another era….

Sorry about missing last weeks report…

Blue Dog, Elephant Butte mascotWe kinda have been in a tailspin around here with Blue’s declining health…  he was 16 years old or so.. had all of the health problems of a really old dude,  diabetes, enlarged liver, pancreatitis..  Janice and the gals here at the store agonized with the tough decision.. a few days ago we thought he was on the up-swing.  But he had a really tough night and day today… Blue passed away an hour or so ago.. surrounded by his favorite folks…   he was good with it…

So come by and give the girls a hug… they are gonna need it..

now … for the fishin’ report..

The fishing has slowed just a little in the afternoons,, but it is so damn hot that I would’t want to eat either…  So the best bites are early mornings and late evenings and nights..

The pattern have stayed the same.. so refer to the last report..

The water temp is warm, 72 deg.  climbing into the 76 deg range in the afternoons.. so the swimming is good in the afternoons while you are waiting on the evening bite..

Small mouth have been active around Rock Canyon along the transitions from sandy areas to rocks..  swimming jigs and small crank baits..

I was on the marina at Del Sur this morning and saw an abundance of perch.. so grab the kids and the ultralight gear, a few weenies or a can of corn and go get em..  Justin said that the perch are also active on the east side in the toolies…

Catfish have made a comeback up north, but a little deeper than usual…  still around trees and rocks, along steep banks..

remember… if you are not catchin’ fish… MOVE…if you are catchin’ fish..STAY.. don’t leave fish to find fish…

I am baking the “over the top” cinnamon rolls this Saturday & Sunday mornings… so come getcha’ one… they’ll make a man out of ya’

We may have afternoon winds this weekends so watch yourself s and have a plan.. I don’t want to read about ya’ in the paper…

Say a prayer for Blue… come & see us…
