Fishin’ Finally getting better.. 08/23

The Whites are getting more dependable, you may have to keep moving to find em’  Good spots are North of Kettle top, flats of McRae,  rattle snake island and around the Dam.  Slab spoons running off of the bottom and Ripple shad with 3/8 Jig head when surfacing. A few local guys are still having very good luck early in the mornings, finding the boiling shad and throwing top water lures..

The bird are still feeding on boiling shad.. so watch for the birds..

Night fishing still going strong.  Both, Damsite marina as well as the Rock Canyon marina and tire barrier..  Live shiners are the best at night.  Live shiners & night crawlers have been a very good option at night from the shore..

Have had a few good reports of folks just walking & or driving the beaches on the east side watching for boiling shad.. then casting at them.  That sounds like a good time..

Walleye still biting with slabs, crank baits and Wally Divers.  Along the east side rocks as well South Long Point.

Large mouth bass good on soft plastics at rocky points and large boulders, 8 to 20 feet.

Catfish good using cut shad, worms and stink bait all over lake.

Water temps in the mornings are around 78 and dropping, water clarity mid lake 3 ft on top.

Kevin Gardner from the NM Game & Fish was by the other day.  He reported that the fish spawn this year was exceptional.  See ya’ll.. all of those efforts are paying off.. (lots of water didn’t hurt).. So when you see the Game & Fish biologist guys.. make a point to thank them.. they have spent a lot of resources here at our lake..

On that note.. there will be another Black Bass stocking at the end of August or the first few days of September.. I will post the date when they firm it up.. All of the help that we can get will help..

On a sad note.. we lost a local friend & fellow Lake Rat this week..  Doug Harris from here in Elephant Butte died on Monday.. after he spent a great weekend on the lake with his family.. He was a great dude, if you new him, then you laughed with him..When God says that it’s your time…. It’s your time… Gonna miss that dude..

Grab mama and the kids… come see us..
