Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Thursday February 28, 2019

Fishin is finally gettin goin….

the weather has been fair for enough time that the fish are starting to get active…

Folks are still catchin’ large White Bass trolling the east side and south Long Point with white & or chartreuse crank baits..

No word yet on any Walleye.

Largemouth and Smallmouth are starting to stage for the spawn, catch them on an a-rig underspin swimbait or crankbait + 12 to 20 foot of water .  Secondary points are best.

Catfish are still very active, 5 – 15 feet of water, up North in the toolies seems to be the ticket.  Night time seems to be producing the best catches.  Cut shad, or cut carp & live Bluegills are working.

Night fishing has gotten pretty good also.. several folks have been buying live shiners on a daily basis.  they are catchin good White Bass and a few Crappies of the rocks on the East side North of Kettletop at Night under the lights…

We have been getting pretty good runoff from the winter storms up North.  Inflows have been around 1000 cu. ft/sec for the last day or so.. We are sneakin up on 10% of capacity..  Maybe we will have a decent water level this season..

This weekend is supposed to be warm… up in the 70deg range..  light winds…

So tell mama’ that it time to go fishin”…  no time for the honey-do list…

come see us…
