Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Fishin’ is starting to pick up…

We finally have some fishin reports coming in to start of the new year..

The days have been beautiful here, just a little cold..

White bass are scarce during the day,  Some large ones are being caught by a few folks that are willing to toll around the east side points and south long point with White or Chartreuse crank baits..  not very dependable though..  the best White Bass fishing has been at night under lights with live bait.. around any structure or the marinas.. Marina del Sur has been the best for night fishing with live shad if you can catch some.. live shiners are very good…

The Black Bass have been pretty dependable.  Main lake points with structure heading to deeper water.. Grubs and most tube plastics have been working..  Steve Sumwalt caught a 3 lb Black Bass in McRae canyon on Saturday.

As usual, Catfish are very active.. they have moved into shallower waters.  Most are being caught in less than 10 ft of water from the bank.  The north east side has been the most active.  Cut shad and cut Carp have been the bait of choice lately..

No reports of Walleye or Smallmouth yet..

The fishing should start picking up as the winter nears end… hopefully….

Tell mama that it’s too cold for a honey-do list…

come see us.
