Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

fishing is tough.. but it’s good practice… 08/10

Fishing has been tough for the last few weeks.. lots of big fish have been caught when someone actually finds em’.

water temp still 78 in A. M.

The storms last week drove them to deep water. They still seem to be deep.. The shad are abundant… so the fish are eating all that they can handle of natures preferred meal..  Your lure is just not very appetizing..

The white bass have been good on points leading to deep water, fish are scattered out. More on north side of the points than the south.. (think about the water flow)

With lots of shad all over the lake, watch for seagulls working the water.  If you see em’ run to them and fish under them..

Walleye still biting from 6 feet to 20 feet of water on Walley divers or most crank baits and slabs.

A lot of white drum also being caught off the bottom using slabs. Not sure why you would want to fish for drum… but I guess that at least your catchin’ sumthin’ ..

Small mouth bass and large mouth bass being taking off rocky structure on tube baits. Watermelon color working good.

The local guys are saying that the early bite (like.. dawn or before 6:30am) is the best and then just before dark..

Night fishing is still the BEST for Whites. lighting up the water around the rocky main lake points.  Live shiners are the best.

The fishing has slowed a bit.. but don’t let that scare ya’ .. if you can find em now, you will be a better fisherman later…

So tell mamma that you cant do the “honey-do” list,, cause you gotta go practice…
