believe it or not… the fishin has not been all that bad in the last few weeks.. mild weather and low winds have made for some really nice days on the lake. The locals and a few weekend fisher folks have been finding good catches of White Bass.
The constant inflow of water has gotten the lake very muddy especially on the North end. Water temperature 60 degree in A.M up to 62 in afternoon, water clarity improving in the last day or so.
Frank Vilorio says that White bass still good, mainly trolling crank baits, jet boat cove, south long point, North part of the flats of McRae. Also, watch the graph for schools of bait fish.. then jig below them for the Whites.
Small mouth good on soft plastics on rocky points.
The catfish continue to be very good for the hardy souls that get our there and fish for them..
Big Blue Cats have been caught on the North end in the channel in deeper water (25 feet or so) on live bait and cut bait. Bluegills are still the preferred grazin’ for catfish..
Check out Kris Flores’ U-tube stuff “Muddy River Catfishing” for techniques… or just book a trip with Byron Lucero at “Set the Hook Catfishing”.. When it comes to the catfish on Elephant Butte, these two dudes can provide you with the information to have a successful trip…
No input on any other species at this time… not many folks out there…
Tell mama that the fish are bitin’ and there is no-one else on the lake…
