Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Friday May 19, 2017

The inflows are around the 4100 cu ft / sec  range while the outflow is consistently around 1600 cu ft / sec.

The result is a fast rising lake and very murky water… the “murk line” has moved south to just north of Rattlesnake Island..

But no one is complaining.. the lake has not looked this good in a lotta’ years…

The only downside is that the water clarity has made the fishin’ slow a bit..

But it is still GOOD!!

White Bass are very good around Rattlesnake Island, Jet Boat Cove, and Castle Rock…  (Pretty much everywhere)

Most productive on 1/2oz slabs, Kastmasters, and live Shiners..Jiggin’ or tight lining off the bottom in 15 -25 feet.

Crappie were spotty this week, live fatheads, Panther Martins (yellow & orange) have been the best.  North side of McRae Canyon and North of Kettle Top on the East side in the coves..

Walleye are OK…  not exactly on fire..  mostly around Long Point, both sides.  Using medium diving crank baits and Wally Divers.. Yellows, Chartreuse & Chrome..

Have not heard much on Catfish this week,, but you can bet that they are biting up North… Cut bait usually..

The patterns have been changing, but the overall fishing is very good… if you don’t catch fish .. MOVE !! Keep moving till’ ya find em…

Tell Mama that the Honey do list must be submitted in triplicate… hand it back to her…

then come see us..

I plan on stirrin’ up some cinnamon roles for Saturday morning…

no pictures this week…. c’mon yall… send me some…
