Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Wednesday April 25, 2018

I think that the wind will lie down this weekend… but that’s what I said last weekend..

Lets hope so…

This week, good stringers of White Bass were caught around Rattlesnake Island and out on the end of South Long Point.. White crank baits, rattletraps for trollin’.  Jiggin’ with Kastmasters, white or yellow slab spoons.

I did not get any reports from the south end of the lake this week,, but the Ash Canyon area has been active all year so don’t be afraid to try it..

Walleyes are biting around Rattlesnake and Horse island off of the rocky ledges.. Yellow Wally Divers, yellow or chartreuse crank baits, yellow or white curly tail jigs..

The water temps are up in low 60 deg. range.

Crappies are biting well with the warmer water temps.. East side canyons, especially around Kettle top, Pump House Cove and McRae Canyon..  Live fathead minnows are the best bait,, small tube baits also good..

Kris Flores reported good action on Blue Cats and Flatheads.. Live baits and FRESH cut baits…Most of the action was up north and around the Monticello area.. Some as far south as Rattlesnake..

Did not get much info on Black or Smallmouth Bass this week.. but they are active throwing up to the banks in the openings of coves..

The lake is dropping slowly, the release is continuing and there is very little runoff coming in from above.. Same story every year.. As of today we are up significantly up from last year.. So PRAY FOR RAIN..

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls on Saturday mornin’..  come gitcha one…. (there bigger’n a dang baby!)

Buy Mama a new rod & reel and bring her fishin’…

If you find yerself in a hole,,,, the first thing to do is stop diggin’…
