Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Thursday March 28, 2019

For all of you that have always heard that there are NO Trout in Elephant Butte,,  well there is is at least one!!  Mike Van Baalen caught a 12″ Trout on the south shore line of the Butte by the Damsite.. trolling with a white sassy shad very close to shore..  Now don’t come running to the lake to fish for Trout,, as a general rule there are not Trout in the main body of the lake.. You can regularly catch Trout in the river below the damn and on down to Caballo…  Every 3 or so years we get a report of someone catching a Trout int he main lake…  it might be the same fish…  he did release it…

Mike also caught a nice White Bass with a White bomber on the North side of the Butte, out by the buoys.. So the Whites are starting to show up on the South end..

White Bass are getting better each week, still the best bet is White, Chrome & Chartreuse crank baits on the North east side and now some are showing up on the East side south of Kettletop and in Pump House cove..  Also around Castle Rock..

With the water warming up the Whites have started to move up into shallow water.. so don’t be afraid to toss up to the bank with Sassy Shads or soft baits…

You folks fishing from the bank, look for rocks and structure, use live shiners, soft baits..

Did get one report of a Walleye caught while trolling for Whites..

Catfish seem to be strong as usual.  better at night..

Night fishing is very good, Whites out on the Marinas, around the tires or any structure.  The rocky points have produced good catches under the lights at nights on live Shiners..

not getting any reports of bank fishin’  … if you guys are catchin’ fish from the bank, share it with us..

The lake is very dirty on the North end and down to the mid lake.. the inflow is very strong, so it is bringing in lots of debris.. We will take it, the lake is coming up fast..

There is a Bass tournament this weekend, but there is plenty of room.. go fish…

come see us..
