Elephant Butte Lake Fishing Report

Thursday May 12, 2016

The fishing report is much the same as previous weeks.. so refer back for details..

the big Crappie are hitting strong on fathead minnows and shiners.

Sandy Walker caught nice Walleye on a small yellow & gold end line spinner..

Pretty much everyone has been catching Whites, Walleye and Crappie on the same stuff, end line spinners, white, chrome, chartreuse crank baits, spoons, and pretty much whatever you have in the box….

When in doubt use live bait.. we have plenty…

Morning and evening bites are still the best.. Night fishing on the tires and other structure has been better each week..

Catfish are still dependable up north and on the east side in the rocks using the traditional stuff (anything that stinks)…. Catfish Bob (there really is such a guy) swears by cut bait, cut from whole Talapia bought at the grocery store…

If you really want to put your kids on fish, now is the time..

The perch have started to move into the marinas! Nothing will get a kid hooked on fishin’ more than a bunch of perch caught on ultra light gear and corn kernels. Just good ol’ school fishin’, it don’t get better than that..

Bank fishing is great, backs of coves on the east side. Long casting with spinners and shallow crank baits. Or sittin’ in a folding chair with a selection of adult beverages….

Don’t forget the “off limits” areas.. they are marked by Game & Fish signs… it is voluntary, but most everyone is on board with the program.

Get your fishing license online on line BEFORE you leave the house…

So if you want to catch fish… now is the time.. So pay the neighbor kid to do the honey-do list.. and come see us…
