FISHIN’ REPORT WEEK OF 06/08/22

Last week was a little slow after the Memorial Day weekend. The added pressure from the increased activity gave the fish lock jaw. But this week the fish have recovered nicely and the fishing has actually become “catching”

White bass fishing good , watch for schools bringing up small shad at mid morning, kastmasters working good, small white curly tail jigs are good as well as live Shiners. Shad if you can find them.

Crappie fishing good around brush and large boulders in back of coves using slip bobbers with small live Shiners or Fathead minnows and small grubs.

Night fishing under lights also productive for crappies and white bass.

Walleye bite still good using chartreuse twin tail grubs on a jig head tipped with a small piece of night crawler . Bottom bouncers with worm harness using night crawlers working good also. Crankbaits in chartreuse and chrome with blue back running in 6 to 10 feet of water on the bottom works good when when other techniques don’t, trolling 2 miles per hour on gravel points

We have had a few fish weighed in for the $10,000 Small Mouth bounty.. Nothing that got very close.. Did have one 26.5lb Striper though, it was nice to see a big Striper in very good health.
I have heard of a few more Stripers this spring than in years past.. Mostly caught deep while fishing for Whites..

The Black Bass and Small Mouth have been active this week. mostly off of secondary points using creature baits.. no bait in particular has been reported.. so use your confidence bait.

No reports on Catfish ..

The fishing is active right now but changes a little each day.. so if you don’t catch fish in 30 minutes or so… MOVE.. change baits … do something different.

We are starting to get late afternoon storms so be aware and get off the lake if you see the weather changing..

Stephanie will have “gut grenade” breakfast burritos on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.. come getcha’ one

thanks to Frank Vilorio for providing the bulk of my fishin report each week.. if you are new to Elephant Butte, you should contact Frank for a guide trip to learn how to fish this lake..
he can be reached at Land of Enchantment Fishing Adventures… 575-740-4710

tell mama that the fishin’ is good and the “honey do’s” are just gonna have to wait.. (good luck with that)

Come see us…
