FISHIN’ REPORT…. WEEK OF 08/12

well, the fishin’ has been nothin’ less than stellar this week.. if the weather patterns don’t change much, it should continue into the weekend..

The Filbert Candelaria family from El Paso loaded up Frank Vilorio’s boat on Elephant Butte.

Morning fishing is awesome. Top water bite is very active from pre dawn till mid morning. Chug top water lures over deep water around structure …

The late afternoon bite is good also, boils are being seen from south long point to rattle snake island. Watch for diving seagulls indicating feeding schools. Small swim baits, sassy shad on jig heads.

When schools aren’t active, troll in deep water and watch for boils in open water.

Night fishin’ is also very good now.. live shiners as well as jiggin’ with chrome kastmasters under the lights. around cliffs and floating structure..

Some very large Crappie are being caught on jigs and live Fathead minnows.. go north on the east side around brush and trees if you can find em..

Walleyes still being caught, seem to have moved out to deeper water , 12 to 18 feet. Slabs, live shad ,deep diving lures , bottom bouncers with night crawlers are good.

A fair amount of 14 – 16″ stripers are being caught also.. PLEASE catch and release em.. They need to grow up..

Lots of Black Bass are being caught around the main lake points on creature baits and crank baits in the early mornings..

No reports on catfish this week..

Watch the weather, we are still getting evening heat showers with the occasional violent storm in the evenings.. don’t get caught out there..
